I'm leaving Jinan today, so I'll be on the road again. Instead of a full post, I thought I'd share some photos of Jinan's Muslim Quarter, or HuiMinQu (回民区). It's a place for sensory overload. The smell of charcoal and grilled meat. The shouts of each restaurant's front of house staff shouting like a carnival barker advertising his restaurant's food. The constant clinking of beer glasses. From the mosque in the far south of the neighborhood, the occasional call to prayer. The barrage of flashing neon lights of every color, refracted through clouds of smoke. It's the textbook example of a place that is renao (热闹), or lively. Here's a look:
